"Dr. Katzen clearly cares about his students and takes ample time to ensure that each of his students’ strengths are highlighted in their application. In each of our meetings, we discussed at length how I could set myself apart from the other applicants. I truly believe that without his help and guidance, I would not have received an acceptance from one of my top schools."

Mary Brand —
MCAT Tutoring
University of California, San Diego
When she came to MedSchoolCoach, Mary had already applied to medical school but had not yet been accepted. She described herself as “all over the place.” Mary had graduated from Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, with a Bachelor’s Degree in English and a minor in Spanish. After applying unsuccessfully to medical school, she completed a post-baccalaureate program at Drexel University College of Medicine. Additionally, she worked as an Emergency Medical Technician, as a technical partner in an emergency department, and as a medical assistant in a dermatology office.
Problem
In Mary’s own words, she felt she was “all over the place” and “had no idea what she wanted, aside from just wanting to be a doctor.” Moreover, she had faced difficulties in getting into medical school previously, suspecting her MCAT score was a significant barrier.
Solution
Therefore, she invested in MCAT tutoring and admissions advising services with MedSchoolCoach. During this partnership, she collaborated with Sayak Ghosh, Dr. Ziggy Yoediono, Dr. James Weintrub, and Kenneth Strickland, boosting her MCAT score, honing her writing skills, and refining her goals. “Talking through with advisors helped me focus on what I actually wanted out of the experience,” she explained.
Results
Within eight weeks of starting her tutoring, Mary improved her MCAT score from 503 to 511. Coupled with the tutoring, the advice from her advisors provided the necessary “confidence boost.” Thanks to her improved application and the significant increase in her MCAT score, Mary’s third attempt at applying to medical school was overwhelmingly successful. She received seven interviews, four acceptances, and two waitlist decisions.
Liam Cunningham —
Admissions Consulting
Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis
Liam Cunningham didn’t understand the time, resources, or expertise required to navigate the application process. He wasn’t particularly confident in his writing abilities, and his undergraduate experience was fairly standard. He majored in biology and gained a substantial amount of clinical experience at a cancer hospital. Additionally, he took a gap year in the middle of his undergraduate studies to work as a manager at a donut shop while trying to figure out how to finance his college education.
Problem
Although Liam had a strong background, he still harbored numerous concerns about the medical school application process. He shared, “I didn’t really know much about the application cycle. No one in my family, nor any of my close friends, had gone through the process.” Adding to these challenges, Liam admitted that writing was not his strength.
Solution
Liam invested in admissions consulting from MedSchoolCoach. His physician advisor, Dr. Adrian Diaz, quickly clarified the application cycle and its processes. Furthermore, his writing advisor, Darlene Holt, provided “incredible advice and really quick feedback.” The interview practice also made Liam feel much more comfortable before facing the real thing.
Results
Through our partnership, Liam secured 14 interviews and received 7 medical school acceptances. He was offered full merit scholarships by Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Before working with MedSchoolCoach, Liam had said, “these were schools I didn’t think I had a chance at.” Ultimately, Liam decided to matriculate at Washington University, his top choice.
Jonah & Stephanie —
Admissions Consulting
Rush Medical College, Chicago
Want to put undue stress on a marriage? Go to different medical schools. For Jonah and Stephanie Moss, who married in 2017, that was a potential reality. Both attended the same undergraduate institution, but their profiles were quite different. He majored in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology and Neuroscience; she earned a Psychology degree with a minor in Dance. His volunteer and clinical experience included work as a research assistant; hers included being an advanced emergency medical technician, a medical assistant, and a resident assistant at a senior living center. They received different MCAT scores. They had different interests.
Problem
The couple lacked guidance on how to apply to medical school together. Beyond the challenge of gaining acceptance, their priority was to ensure they remained in the same city, ideally attending the same school. The dilemma was crafting compelling applications that effectively communicated their shared journey.
Solution
Jonah and Stephanie enlisted the help of MedSchoolCoach for admissions consulting. They were paired with Dr. Aubrey Demajh (Jordan), who assisted them in creating a tailored list of schools and in articulating their unique stories throughout their applications.
Results
The couple not only received more than a dozen interviews and multiple acceptances but also achieved their dream of being accepted together at Rush Medical College in Chicago. They began their studies at Rush and are now proudly known as “future Dr. Moss Squared.”
Deborah Rose —
USMLE Tutoring
Duke University Hospital
Deborah Rose was not satisfied with her Step 1 performance, and her Step 2 was fast approaching. As she began her clinical rotations in the third year of medical school, her concern for the looming Step 2 CK exam increased. She had graduated from Cornell University, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Spanish. Her medical journey then continued with a post-baccalaureate fellowship through the Intramural Research Training Award program at the National Institute of Mental Health’s Laboratory of Neuropsychology. Afterwards, she matriculated at the Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine.
Problem
As Deborah embarked on her clinical rotations in her third year of medical school, she grew increasingly apprehensive about the upcoming Step 2 CK exam. Recognizing the importance of early preparation, especially after her underwhelming performance on Step 1, she noted, “I knew I needed a solid Step 2 CK score to enhance the competitiveness of my residency application.”
Solution
Understanding the necessity for tutoring, Deborah expressed, “I felt it was necessary and important to invest in this to perform well.” She opted to collaborate with MedSchoolCoach and was matched with Dr. Ram Rao. Together, they dedicated the following months to focusing on “strategy, content, and confidence.”
Results
The investment in tutoring with Dr. Rao proved fruitful. Deborah’s Step 2 CK score was 30 points higher than her Step 1 score. This achievement significantly contributed to her matching with Duke University Hospital – her top choice – where she is now a Neurology Resident. Deborah confidently recommends, “I highly recommend this service. You will not regret it.”
